CT Extend Partnership with ATP World Tour Until 2018

23 December, 2015

After a brilliant year of tennis, the season came to a close with one final tournament held in The O2 Arena in London: the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

Following on from an exciting tennis season, the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals returned to The O2 in London to draw a close on the year with one last competition between only the best of tennis.

As the top singles players and doubles teams took to the court to battle it out for the title and their share of the $7,000,000 prize fund, Creative Technology (CT) provided a full sports presentation service for the seventh year running – having worked with ATP and Wasserman Experience since the tournament was first held at The O2 in 2009.

CT supplied the usual visual display elements as a part of the sports presentation package – this included 230m of LED courtside banner, a 90m2 IMAG screen and 160m2 of flown LEDs which created the eight-sided gondola that was suspended over the court. This year’s standout technological piece was the player entry onto court. The bright, personalised LED doorway and pathway added to the tension and excitement as the world’s best players entered the arena.

Ensuring that the full potential of the display set-up was utilized, a complex event control system was provided by Wasserman which consisted of 20 media servers that were all controlled by a Spyder X20. This enabled all aspects of the event (such as live scoring feeds, broadcasters’ camera feeds, and social media feeds) to be integrated with the multiple displays around the venue.

This year saw the launch of the ATP’s new social media app, MyATP powered by Vixlet – a social network designed exclusively for tennis fans. CT developed their Mercury platform in order to tap into the social media content provided by the app. This allowed posts to be easily organized, selected and sent to the arena’s visual displays for all to see, further improving the tournament’s fan engagement. Furthermore, CT supported the Official Launch of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, held at City Hall, by providing multiple digital displays and creating a presentation system which enabled the competition’s draw to be digitalised.

At the Official Launch, the ATP announced that the tournament will be staying at The O2 until 2018. Adam Hogg, Event Director of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, commented, “It’s been an absolute pleasure working with CT again and we are looking forward to continuing our relationship for the next three years”.
