CT Go Rogue with Star Wars After Party
After last year's success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the highly anticipated prequel to the sci-fi franchise hit the cinemas on Wednesday 14th December with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The premiere’s after party took place at the South Tank in London’s Tate Modern; with Creative Technology transforming the space into a galaxy far far away, thanks to some ingenious projection.
Requested by AD Events Ltd, Creative Technology (CT) provided a large-scale 180° projection blend on one of the curved edges of the South Tank. With a surface area of 308sqm, CT were able to project onto the concrete curve using seven Panasonic PT-DZ13k projectors.
Our team of projectionists, who transformed Nelson’s Column into a 52m high lightsaber for the Star Wars: Force Awakens premiere this time last year, had just 10 hours to ensure that each of the seven projectors were carefully aligned and ready to go. The content consisted of Star Wars icons, including Storm Troopers, the Death Star, ATATs and the film’s heroes. Created by Digital Insanity, this content was driven by a number of Watchout servers.
CT project manager Dominic Hill, was excited to work on such a job saying, ‘it’s great to be a part of such a prestigious and popular franchise. It’s always exciting when the project itself gives us the opportunity to brainstorm new ideas and styles; projection on a concave surface has its challenges but when the content was this impressive, we knew that we had to make it happen!”
