CT Success at Royal Variety Performance
CT supplied video solutions at this year's Royal Variety Performance.
The Christmas season is not complete without ITV’s annual Royal Variety Performance. Aired on the 8th December, this famous charitable event is a highlight of the UK calendar. This year, comedians, artists and performers from across the world took to the stage at The Royal Albert Hall, entertaining the public as well as this year’s honoured Royal guest: Prince Harry.
Hosted by comedian, Jack Whitehall, The Royal Variety Performance had an array of show-stopping performances. British teen heart-throbs, One Direction; music legend, Elton John; Beverly Knight; and the internationally renowned Cirque Du Solei were only some of what was on offer.
Working for ITV Studios, Creative Technology (CT) decked out the main stage with a 9m x 5m Barco C5 display which moved vertically to accompany the night’s performances. This allowed performers to enter upstage as well as accommodating any large and extravagant performances – of which there were definitely a few!
CT also provided two portrait-stacked Panasonic DZ21K projectors which were placed at the back of the Royal Albert Hall, projecting images across the auditorium onto a 10m high free-flowing gauze onstage for singer Josh Groban.
The Royal Variety Performance began in 1912 and is now watched by over 152 million TV viewers worldwide, making it the longest running entertainment show in the world. Raising money for The Royal Variety Charity which helps those, within the entertainment industry, in need of care and assistance, this year’s event was the most successful ever.
Royal Variety’s chairman, Giles Cooper, commented, “The Royal Variety Performance was an absolutely resounding success and I'd like to thank HRH Prince Harry for attending as our Royal guest of honour for the first time. In terms of fundraising and profit raised for our great charity, this year's show was the most successful in our 103 year history and I'd like to thank all of our supporters for buying a ticket and attending what was a spectacular night of entertainment.”
