London Winter Concert 2019
Creative Technology (CT) utilised the d&b Soundscape system to bring to life the magic of the annual London Winter Concert 2019. The was event produced by WMP Creative and was held in London’s Royal Festival Hall on 3rd December 2019. The night included performances from the The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Russel Watson, and Brit-nominated artist Carly Paoli.
CT’s d&b Soundscape was the obvious choice to create a clear sound that naturally amplified the classical instruments and stunning vocals throughout the venue giving the entire audience the same, fully immersive musical experience.
Being able to design and pre-program the system prior to the event using d&b predictive software, ArrayCalc, was a huge benefit. Specifying where each element of the PA was to be placed in order to achieve the best results ahead of the overnight rig and midday sound check, meant only minor tweaks were needed on the day – ensuring a smooth and efficient installation.
CT used DiGiCo SD10’s at front of house with an SD9 for on-stage monitoring. On stage were two SD racks packed full of 32bit input cards in order to cater for the DPA 4099s and DPA 4011s that were used to mic up the orchestra. For the lead vocals a Sennheiser 6000 range with DPA d:facto heads was used.
The PA comprised of d&b V8s and V12 Line Array cabs complete with V-Subs. The front fill, d&b E8’s was all driven by d&b’s D80 amplifiers connected to R1 for system control.
“The d&b system is quick and easy to deploy, it lends itself to all event types, it’s a very discrete system that delivers and it did not let us down. The entire night was a roaring success and sounded absolutely incredible from start to finish.” – Mark Boden, Director of Audio at Creative Technology.
