CT’s “Preparation, Preparation, Preparation” Enhances Success of EXHIBITOR Magazine’s 2014 Awards Night.
Recognized as the leading trade publication for the exhibit industry, EXHIBITOR magazine showcases excellence in trade show and event marketing throughout its pages and at its annual namesake event, the EXHIBITOR Show. Therefore, receiving an acknowledgement, award or honor from EXHIBITOR is highly coveted among industry professionals.
In the past, award winners were recognized in the magazine and received a trophy, plaque or award certificate. EXHIBITOR’s publisher and editors, however, determined that considering the cost and effort needed to develop a new product, service or an exhibit design worthy of an EXHIBITOR award it was important that the industry celebrate the excellence together. With that in mind, the EXHIBITOR team launched an awards celebration that was held during the EXHIBITOR2014 conference and trade show at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas last March. The event showcased eight award categories including, awards for exhibit design, integrated marketing, Buyers Choice and Best of Show EXHIBITOR2014. The 300-seat event sold out.
“Our goal was to bring this celebration of excellence to life at a live event,” said Randal Acker, President and COO, EXHIBITOR Media Group. “We wanted this event to be our industry’s Academy Awards, a night of networking, dining and celebration. The celebration itself needed to live up to the quality experience of the excellence we were there to celebrate.”
Group Delphi produced the event and recruited Creative Technology (CT) to design and provide audio/visual services. Group Delphi creates trade show exhibits and events that help clients engage markets and move audiences to change their behaviors or perceptions.
“Creative Technology was recommended to us by the team at Group Delphi,” said Acker. “Group Delphi worked with Creative Technology many times in the past and they (CT) were consistent, reliable and a great partner to work with. Group Delphi knew that the A/V services for this event would be critical to the attendee experience and that Creative Technology would make us look good. They had the best equipment and experienced personnel that allowed us and Group Delphi to know that it would be done right.”
CT provided video projection (custom mapping) and audio support, including 11 technicians and project management. Equipment included Barco HDX W18 projectors, custom 3D and rear projection screens, switching system, cameras, audio and wireless intercom systems.
“One of the things that set us apart from other A/V providers is that we prepare our events thoroughly,” said Ken Maas, CT National Sales Director. “We worked with Delphi’s managers to ensure that we were addressing all issues relevant to schedule, other vendors, etc.”
Maas attributed the events success to “preparation, preparation, preparation.”
“The ballroom had no easy rig points, so everything was ground supported and there were some columns in the room which were not ideal,” Maas added. “We had to engineer some pretty sophisticated projector placement to insure that talent wasn’t in the projection cone.”
Acker said the evening’s event was a great success and looks forward to the 2015 Awards Night.
“The overwhelming majority of the attendees and sponsors have commended us with many a ‘well done, fun night, glad you did this’,” Acker concluded. “Numerous companies have approached us with an interest in being part of next year’s EXHIBITOR’s Awards Night, in fact, one stated ‘you have to do this again and I know many others feel the same way.’”
