The Force is Strong with CT

Thanks to some Jedi-like patience and a little help from the Force, CT successfully completed this gigantic projection and was honoured to be a part of the world’s largest movie franchise.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is well on its way to becoming the most discussed film of the year with Star Wars fever reaching across the globe, even months before the initial premiere. Earlier this week, the European premiere took place at London’s Leicester Square to a huge crowd but Creative Technology ensured that the Force was felt all across the capital!
In the run up to the European premiere, CT was contracted by AD Events to transform Nelson’s Column into a 3D lightsaber for a surprise reveal which took place after the premiere’s first film-showing ended. The brilliant content was created by video designer, Richard Bagshaw, and featured both red and blue lightsabers – to represent Star Wars’ legendary Light and Dark sides. With a strict timeframe to complete the installation, our CT crew worked under the cover of darkness to complete and test this projection within 12 hours before the big reveal on Wednesday 16th.
To complete this projection, the 52m-high column had to be scanned using a laser to create the intricate map needed for the 3D projection using four Photon servers to ensure precise alignment and calibration. 12 stacked projectors were needed to fully cover Nelson’s Column; projecting from a distance of 50m, from a height of 9.5m, to create the impressive illusion.
