CT Bring 4K to the Fashion Awards
Held at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London, The Fashion Awards has cemented itself as one of the most coveted fashion events of the year.
Creative Technology (CT) made sure that the 2016 ceremony turned heads both on and off the red carpet by taking advantage of the wonders of 4K projection and placing it centre stage.
Working with INCA Productions alongside creative producer, Justine Catterall, and production manager, Jim Lambert, CT installed and managed the stage backdrop that was used throughout the ceremony. This staging consisted of projection upon three 11m high screens (two made from a white screen and the centre made from gauze) using four Christie Boxer 4K30 projectors. This projection showed award introductions and any highlight footage from the past year’s fashion events, including a celebration of 100 years of Vogue – with all the intricate content created by variety of guest contributors with the help of Creative Directors, Patrick and Antonio, from Visual Clinic.
Furthermore, a 3m wide x 11m high Absen 3.9mm LED screen was hidden behind the stage’s centre gauze that was used during award nominations and announcements. To add to this effect, Blackout also installed five automated roller blinds that sat around the edge of the stage. This created a 3D projection illusion used in a similar vein to support Adele’s world tour and fast becoming an AV trend.
The unsung hero of this project were the processers that drove the content and projection. A Barco E2 was paired with a Watchout media server to combine quad HD into a stunning 4K 50fps. Making the already-striking content even more impacting for the 4,000 guests who attended the ceremony. With Jack Whitehall hosting and appearances from fashion icons, such as Gigi Hadid, Jaden Smith, David Beckham, Alexa Chung and many others, it is safe to say that this year’s event truly was one of glitz and glamour!
