CBI Annual Conference
The CBI Annual Conference, produced by Lipfriend Rodd International (LRI), was held for the third time at the Intercontinental London – The O2 on 18th November 2019.
Previously held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Creative Technology (CT) have been involved in this prestigious event for many years, with this event marking the 14th year of production for LRI. It brings together around 1500 senior leaders of industry, politics and the media, and includes keynotes from both the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition. World media outlets broadcast live from the conference, adding to the complexity of the event.
The audio system combined d&b Y and E Series point source cabinets. Detailed drawings and calculations were required to ensure that the sightlines to the large LED screens were not obscured and the resulting coverage and intelligibility with this large audience was superb.
20x Sennheiser 5000 series radio microphones were used, controlled by a Yamaha QL5 and Rio stage boxes linked by fibre.
Riedel Performer hardwired show comms were interfaced with a Clear-Com FreeSpeak wireless intercom system which was required to work across two floors of the venue. A Motorola back-to-back system using Tate repeaters was also used venue-wide by both the production team and the client.
From a video perspective CT provided the main stage backdrop using ROE CB3 and further ROE Vanish 25mm to create some LED columns in the wings. Main Switching of feeds was handled by Barco E2. High Res playback from Watchout. The 3 x Panasonic camera system and HS6000 mixer in the room covered the stage and audience with a full record package. In the main room, CT provided a mixed feed to all broadcasters for transmission and handled video and audio feeds to a soundproof media booth area at the back of the room along with web streaming hardware. Around the venue, through all green rooms, VIP and outside registration marquee CT installed a multi-channel IPTV system displaying on 55” LCDs.
The schedule to install and de-rig this project was tight and required multiple engineers to work to detailed plans across various shift times to ensure everything was ready in ample time.
Rob Day, Senior Project Manager at Creative Technology, commented, “It’s always a pleasure working with LRI and particularly on this high profile event, with a long history together its very much like a family production approach to the project and I welcome the opportunity to join forces on the next one.”
Amy Paterson, Senior Producer at LRI was very pleased with the result, commenting “Thank you for all the hard work and dedication your team put into this year’s CBI Annual Conference. We cannot be more proud and grateful to you all for going above and beyond to create such a complex show and what was ultimately an incredibly successful event. Our clients from the CBI extend their thanks and praise to all of you.”
