Sia's X Factor Performance Is Anything But Square
04 February, 2016
As always with the eccentric singer, her performance exceeded expectations.
Sia took to the X Factor stage earlier this month (December) to perform her latest single, ‘Alive’ during the competition’s semi-final show. As always with the eccentric singer, her performance exceeded expectations as she stood atop a large cube in her trademark fringe concealing her face.
Creative Technology (CT) provided the projection equipment which enabled the large cube to be engulfed in visual content while a dancer performed within the cube. To help fulfil producer and creative director, Jo Mackay and Paul Caslin’s vision, CT was contracted by LarMac LIVE to work together with production suppliers to ensure Sia’s live performance was a success.
The cube itself was constructed by Spacial Installations and the visual content was created by Blink TV while CT supplied the projection equipment – each working together with the aim to help Sia deliver a powerful performance. Using projector brackets on every side of the cube and four WATCHOUT channels, CT was able to manage the content as it unfolded live, making adjustments to the projectors if needed.
The challenging task was placing the complete cube on stage during the presenter’s introduction of the performance. This allowed only seconds to check that the cube and its projectors were aligned perfectly so that the content synced with the contemporary-dancer’s movements.
Just in case you may have missed it, watch Sia’s incredible performance here.
Graham Miller, CT's Head of Music and Touring was delighted with the result: "This was a unique three-dimensional concept to deliver a powerful performance on the X Factor. Creative Technology were proud to support Sia on this project".
