Creative Technology proud to support the 2023 NaSTAs
Creative Technology were delighted to support the 2023 NaSTAs (National Student Television Association) Awards at Ravensbourne University as part of the company’s ConneCT education initiative.
Bringing together current generation practitioners with the superstars of tomorrow, the space soon became a filled inspiration, brilliant conversations, debates and learning sessions.
Creative Technology were onsite for four days in the build-up to the event, supplying full audio and video solutions along with skilled personnel to support the students in producing and operating the highly anticipated awards on Saturday evening.
As part of Creative Technology’s onsite presence, some of the company’s recent recruits took their place on the exhibition stand to engage and talk with the students and answer as many of their questions as possible. Friends and colleagues from NEP were also present showcasing routes into the broadcast industry, from seasonal opportunities to full-time roles. The day also presented a great opportunity for some of our less-experienced employees to build on their soft skills and presentation techniques for the future.
Creative Technology also ran some morning ConneCT sessions with the students focusing on the world of virtual production with our partners at Lux Machina and some of the new broadcast workflows using SMPTE 2110 with Panasonic’s ‘Kairos’ vision mixing solution. These sessions created some real enthusiasm amongst the audience, with conversations still being had in the room long after they finished.
The award ceremony Saturday evening proved to be the highlight of the event and with the students driving the ceremony hard with video stings, projection mapping, in-camera effects and general antics amongst the audience, it was a brilliant night all round! All the award winners were celebrated, the runners-up applauded, with many new friendships and networks made in the process which is what these types of events are all about.
Speaking upon reflection of the day, Sid Lobb, Creative Technology’s Head of Vision & Integrated Networks, commented, “It was an excellent few days spent with tomorrow’s generation. They worked seamlessly with our on-site teams and produced a fantastic evening they should all be very proud of. I also got to have some great conversations as part of our ConneCT sessions and there is a definite want and passion from the students to learn and soak up as much knowledge as they can get, and I am looking forward to progressing some of discussions down the line.”
To summarise the whole experience and what the support from Creative Technology meant to the event, NaSTAs chief event organiser, Jack Phillips commented, “Having Creative Technology work with us and supply the cameras, LED screen, sound mixer, and even a Panasonic Kairos desk gave students a phenomenal opportunity to work with industry professionals to gain and improve skills in multiple technical disciplines. Every single member of the Creative Technology team has been great to work with and each of the students has only got positive things to say about their time working on the project. On top of this, Creative Technology were kind enough to provide an interactive session for all the other students which was an inspiring introduction into virtual production with the aim of helping the students with their future career opportunities going forward.”
It was a great pleasure to be part of the day and Creative Technology look forward to welcoming tomorrow’s generation into our world and seeing where they take themselves and the next iteration of the live broadcast world.
