Al Wasl Audio & Projection Installation – Expo 2020
Al Wasl is the heart of the EXPO site that will bring together 192 countries. CT was contracted to deliver 360 degree projection to cover a 186 million-pixel canvas and audio solutions for the main Expo 2020 pavilion installation.
Whilst most of Expo 2020 is in use for the six months ‘event period’, Al Wasl Plaza has been designed and built to remain as a legacy to the show. The technology, therefore, has to be future-proof from the offset. With an initial project life of at least 3 functional years, it also has to be resilient. With the internal temperature of the trellis expecting to reach over 75 degrees C careful consideration of correct material specifications proved to be just as important in ensuring the longevity of the installation. The technology needs to meld with the aesthetics to ensure it can go unnoticed when not in use. Much time and effort were spent colour-matching key items to assist with this process.
